Aamir Hussain Khan was born on March 14, 1965, in Mumbai, India, to film producer Tahir Hussain and Zeenat Hussain. His uncle, Nasir Hussain, was also a producer-director. He has three siblings: a younger brother, Faisal Khan, and two sisters, Farhat and Nikhat Khan. His father's financial difficulties with his film productions made his childhood "tough." Aamir completed his pre-primary education at J.B. Petit School, attended St. Anne's High School until the eighth grade, and then went to Bombay Scottish School for the ninth and tenth grades. He completed his twelfth grade at Narsee Monjee College in Mumbai.
Career
Aamir Khan first appeared on screen as a child actor in his uncle's film Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973). His first leading role as an adult was in Holi (1984), followed by his breakthrough role in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), which earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. Throughout the 1990s, he established himself as a leading actor with commercially successful films like Dil (1990), Rangeela (1995), and Raja Hindustani (1996), for which he won his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
In 1999, he founded Aamir Khan Productions. The company's first film, Lagaan (2001), was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and won him a National Film Award and two more Filmfare Awards. He made his directorial debut with Taare Zameen Par (2007), a film about dyslexia, which won him the Filmfare Awards for Best Film and Best Director. His biggest commercial successes include Ghajini (2008), 3 Idiots (2009), Dhoom 3 (2013), PK (2014), and Dangal (2016). In addition to acting and directing, he has also worked as a producer, screenwriter, and television personality, hosting the show Satyamev Jayate.
Awards and Honors
Aamir Khan has received numerous awards, including nine Filmfare Awards and four National Film Awards. The Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri in 2003 and the Padma Bhushan in 2010.
