Gal Gadot was born and raised in Israel. Her parents, Michael, an engineer, and Irit, a physical education teacher, are both of Ashkenazi Jewish descent. She grew up in Rosh HaAyin, where she was active in various sports, including basketball and volleyball, and trained in dance for 12 years. In 2004, at the age of 18, Gadot was crowned Miss Israel. She later represented her country in the Miss Universe pageant but has stated that she intentionally did not try to win.

Following the pageant, Gadot fulfilled her mandatory two-year service in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), where she served as a combat fitness instructor. She has credited this experience with providing her with discipline and a better understanding of how to portray a strong, independent character in her later acting roles.

After her military service, Gadot studied law and international relations at IDC Herzliya before a casting director, who had previously considered her for a role as a Bond girl, cast her in the 2009 film Fast & Furious. She played Gisele Yashar, a former Mossad agent and weapons expert, a role she reprised in several sequels. Her experience with weapons from her time in the IDF was reportedly a factor in her casting.

Gadot's career skyrocketed when she was cast as Wonder Woman in the DC Extended Universe. She made her debut as the iconic superhero in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and later starred in the critically acclaimed solo film Wonder Woman (2017). The film's success cemented her status as a global superstar and a symbol of female empowerment. She has since reprised the role in Justice League (2017) and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020).

Beyond her work as Wonder Woman, Gadot has starred in a variety of films, including the action-comedy Red Notice (2021), the mystery film Death on the Nile (2022), and the action thriller Heart of Stone (2023), which she also co-produced. In 2019, she and her husband, Jaron Varsano, co-founded their own film and television production company, Pilot Wave. She became the first Israeli actor to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2025.

Beyond her acting and production work, Gadot is an influential model with endorsements from major brands. She is also a passionate philanthropist and has used her platform to advocate for various causes.
