Born Gauahar Zafar Khan on August 23, 1983, in Pune, Maharashtra, she is the youngest of five siblings. Her elder sister, Nigaar Khan, is also a well-known actress. Gauahar started her career in modeling, participating in the Femina Miss India 2002 contest where she won the "Miss Talented" title. This led her to represent India at the Miss International 2002 pageant. Before her acting debut, she was a popular face in music videos, notably for the hit song "Hawa Mein Udati Jaaye" by Bombay Vikings.

Gauahar made her film debut with a special appearance in the song "Nasha" in the 2004 film Aan: Men at Work. Her first significant acting role was in the 2009 Yash Raj Films production, Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, where she played the role of Koena Sheikh.

Gauahar's career took a significant turn with her entry into reality TV. She was the first runner-up on the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 3 in 2009. Her greatest fame came in 2013 when she was crowned the winner of Bigg Boss 7, making her a household name across India.

She is also recognized for her impactful supporting roles and dance numbers in Bollywood films. Some of her notable film appearances include her role as Chand Bibi in Ishaqzaade (2012) and as a supporting character in Begum Jaan (2017). She has successfully transitioned to the digital space, starring in web series such as the political drama Tandav (2021) and the crime series Shiksha Mandal (2022).

Gauahar Khan married choreographer and social media influencer Zaid Darbar on December 25, 2020. The couple announced their pregnancy in December 2022 and welcomed their son in 2023. Beyond acting, Gauahar is an entrepreneur and has launched her own clothing brand called Gauahargeous. She is also very active on social media, where she promotes various brands and shares glimpses of her life with her millions of followers.
